Waiting to touch the Pacific

In progress, still planning to do something with the big white blob. 24 x 24.

Tomorrow I’m out of here for a few days. I have my N95s, my watercolors and sketchbook and a few brushes, my running gear, and a few other things. I cannot wait to get there and walk to the end of the beach where it touches the water and stick my feet in and look out there as I ground myself in that moment.

Hoping there won’t be any major issues with flights with the government shutdown, but you never know. I have a nonstop flight so I’m not worried about any delays. I just hope to get to the beach before sunset.

The weather has been awesome here today, wet, cool, in the 40s and 50s, I needed a jacket and I wore tights. I do love this weather and the rain makes the fall colors even more intense. My hands were cold when I walked this morning. I’m looking forward to the marine layer and the smell of the ocean and the sound of seagulls and waves crashing on the beach, and walking forever.

My thoughts today on the future of our country:

I don’t know the first thing about international law, but I did hear the International Criminal Court has its sights on Rubio, Hegseth, and Pendejo for a number of crimes. Not sure if it’s blowing up the boats in The Caribbean, threatening war with Venezuela, enabling the Gaza genocide, or what they are doing with migrants when they deport and disappear them to third countries, but all of it is horrendous and they need to be stopped and held to account. Also, if they are declaring war on US cities, can’t they then be charged with war crimes for the violence and brutality against people in the streets? I would like to see Putin, Pendejo, and Netanyahu sharing a cramped jail cell they will never leave.

The atrocities will continue. Blue states need to withhold the taxes they pay to the federal government. They need to refuse to cooperate in any way with these Departments of Thuggery- like in Chicago refusing to let Kristi Noem use the bathroom, refusing to serve them in restaurants- those are great little acts of defiance.

I wonder if this is our country’s comeuppance for all the damage we’ve done to the world and the planet for so many years- aligning ourselves with dictatorial regimes when it benefits us, refusing to acknowledge and act on climate change, our parochialism, self-absorption, and materialism that treats the rest of the world as if it doesn’t matter, and only exists to benefit us. We certainly deserve to have a taste of our own medicine, and maybe this is it, at long last. This country is going to have to wake the hell up from the luxury of apathy. It might already be too late.

Mocking the thin skinned little White Nationalist twerps is a good thing. Thanks to AOC, Gavin Newsom, J.B. Pritzker, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, and all the other politicians and comedians and podcasters who are doing a great job. Keep it coming.
