After a week off from the workshop, it was time to dive back in to week 9 today. For the last four weeks of the workshop, we are working on a series of paintings. That’s all we are doing, just applying what we covered in the workshop to a small series of paintings. I chose to do five 12 x 12s to keep them manageable, plus the throwaway board which might turn into a sixth one. I will be working on a commission plus production for my upcoming summer shows, so I didn’t want to get too consumed with the workshop series. Last year I ended up selling my entire series.
After watching all the videos for the week, I went out to the studio for a couple of hours and did some work plus started the series. I only did the first pass today, tomorrow I’ll see if I want to work on the second pass. I have a lot of other works in progress. With this series, I don’t have a plan. I chose some colors that I don’t usually start with, and some I don’t particularly like, with the intention of letting it develop slowly. I will have close to a dozen layers of paint, maybe more, by the time this series is finished. By building up the surface, I will end up with some great texture and lots of surprises.
I finally got out to the trails on Sunday with my friend Cathy K. We started early and parked in Lory State Park and ran into Horsetooth Park to Horsetooth Falls, and back, which was a little over 10 miles. Everything is green and wet, and the early purple wildflowers are popping. I was hoping to see some iris out there, but it might still be too early. We had the trails to ourselves until we got to the falls, then there were a gazillion people coming in as we ate a snack and got up to head back.
There were a few people on the way back, mostly mountain bikers, until we got to Mill Creek and then it was just us again. It’s so nice to be able to get far back enough on the trails so you don’t see people. I felt so good on the trails, and we ran a good portion of it, but didn’t push hard. It was relaxing and the flowers make it extra beautiful. I’ll need to go back in another week or so and see if the irises come out. I also know places in Lory State Park where they usually grow.

I’ve been wanting to write a more substantive post but I haven’t been able to pull my thoughts together. I meant to address the fake science issues in HHS. Where they faked the sources of data, and the studies they cited and attributed to certain authors were not real, or had been written by someone else. This administration is so full of complete losers. These people are the ones who cheated their way through school and life, and got away with things because their parents were rich and well-connected.
I keep hoping the Pendejo’s dementia will become too obvious to deny, and that these clowns will all collapse in their clown car and drive it over a cliff.
I can’t believe what happened in Boulder yesterday. I have seen that group of people before. Last year while I was at my art booth during the Labor Day show on Pearl Street, they marched by. It was a quiet little group, maybe 15 to 20 of them, and they had signs, and they were peaceful. I remember making eye contact with one of the women in the group to communicate my support. She came over to my booth to thank me. Last year, they were marching for the hostages who had not been freed, and were feared to be dead. They have had a consistent presence there. And then this attack. It doesn’t help anything. I want to see Netanyahu, Putin, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and all of the corrupt, sociopathic criminals who torture and kill and abuse their power be held accountable in some way. And of course the Pendejo and his horrible bunch of evil cronies.
The one thing that made me smile was when I heard about the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian military aircraft, taking out about a third of their fleet. So much smarter than Russia. Makes me proud of my Ukrainian heritage!
I need to come up with a good idea for a sign for the No Kings Day protest. Might have to use the Pendejo voodoo doll and make a little shoebox jail cell mounted on some cardboard.
Every day is a new low in our country. When will we hit bottom? Is there a bottom? I want to see the Democrats get tough and loud and step up. BITFO*! TACO!
Have a good week.
*BITFO=Bring it the f*** on!
I know what you mean about "focus," I find it very difficult some days to order my thoughts, because there's just too much crazy going on out there. I'm so sorry and sad about what happened in Boulder. So ugly. So cruel. Stay safe there, and my your heart swell in peace and the resistance through art and creation.
Hi Alene,
The new series sounds and looks exciting thus far. I can't wait to see what develops. The photos of the trail are delightful, and I'm sure it was so nice to see wildflowers. Maybe the irises will, indeed, be there soon.
Ah, the Pendejo and his fellow liars. No one will ever admit Pendejo has dementia. If they don't admit it now, they never will because it's so damn obvious now. And, yes, the lies at HHS. Of course, they were made up. What else could they do but make shit up? This administration is the worst ever; it is heartless, cruel, criminal, and filled with lies.
I could go on, but there's too much to say, and I find myself getting frustrated....
The Colorado incident is scary. Hope you continue to stay safe. Hugs.
