I have so much to do before the Vail show. It hit me in the past few days, I had to scramble. Checking on reservations, dealing with all the supplies and equipment I need, doing inventory, painting new pieces, the tent and display panel situation, getting my digital photos uploaded, edited and saved for my print and card order I’m going to place this coming week, finding help for time consuming tasks.
I asked my neighbor if her 13 year old daughter might be interested in helping me tag and label the paintings for one of my shows in late August, and helping me package the cards and prints for shows later this summer and for this fall. She said she is interested and we’re going to discuss it after I get back from Vail. Her daughter is really creative, she draws cartoons, she’s been doing that for several years now, and they’re good! She’s smart and seems mature and responsible for a kid her age, so I’ll see if that works out and she can earn some money.
I need to get my work out of the gallery. Nothing has sold there, and I have a much better chance of selling those paintings on my own. I haven’t heard anything from her, but I’ll let her know I’m done. In a nice way, of course. Galleries are tough, it would be worthwhile if they did the marketing and actively tried to see your work, but in this case, she doesn’t. I’ll know to ask about that next time I look into another gallery. I need to pay more attention to which galleries are doing any marketing, the ones in Denver or other places. I still think Scottsdale has potential for me.
I ended up spending a solid 14 hours working today. I started painting at 5:30 this morning and just got done taking the artwork out of the tent and drawing a diagram and labeling parts. I was extremely productive in those 14 hours, but tomorrow I need to get out for a good long run before I do anything else.
I took today off from running but yesterday I climbed the Towers road with my friend Mel, and it was so nice up there. It was a cooler than usual day and we started at 6 am. I think I got up there faster than I have all year. It’s a 7 mile out and back with nearly 2000 feet each of climb and descent. Good little workout in the morning before painting all day!

Here’s a video of what the new panels and canopy look like.
I am finishing up on a few of the wood panels leftover from CVP. I have a ton of them! I just want to finish three more before Vail, if I can. I’d like to have a few more poppies since those sell, maybe I can get around to doing a couple of smaller sized poppy paintings, but as far as Vail goes, once I pick up my work from the gallery this week or next, I have enough for this first show.
Not much else to report. I’m tired tonight. Time to scrub the paint and acrylic medium off my hands and arms and anywhere else it managed to splash me, and get into bed. I can’t believe it’s already the middle of July. I can’t believe it’s only the middle of July. July 2025. Are we great yet? If we are, can we stop?
Hi Alene,
Somehow, I missed this post! I love the video: it's amazing how many paintings this structure holds. Incredible. Your paintings in this post are gorgeous.
I'm sorry the gallery was a no-sale experience. I wonder if galleries are like book publishers -- unless you're Stephen King, there is no marketing occuring. Hopefully you can find a gallery that boosts its artists more.
The pictures are awesome; I'm glad you got out and hiked!
Is America great again? I think not.
