First, a peaceful video to start. This is a tour of my garden and the outside of the studio this morning. No words, just quiet and beauty. It’s four minutes long, but plenty of time to chill out before I launch my tirade on the keyboard. Warning- this post is a little out of character for my usual ones.
You know the universe works in interesting ways. It is easy to despair and feel powerless and hopeless at this moment, when we have a childish dictator bent on inciting World War III, but we are not the only country in the world, and there are a lot of measured, intelligent, and thoughtful people on this planet in positions of power and influence who have the courage, decency, and respect for people’s lives everywhere. People who can see past the ends of their own noses.
One thing is for sure, this effing Orange moronic Pendejo and his cheerleading squad of testosterone addicts and Stepford Wives will not have the last word. The chest-puffing, cross-dangling, and Botox have done nothing to help these unintelligent, sadistic clowns as they pursue their terroristic attack on their own country.
When Pendejo attacked Iran, all he did was attack his own country. If there are any terrorist sleeper cells out there, let’s hope they bomb Mar-A-Lago first. I think the world knows that most Americans aren’t interested in a war. Looks like half of MAGA is with them, too.
Neil Young’s 2006 song Shock and Awe fits this moment perfectly. Check out the prescient lyrics. Those who don’t learn from history…
The United States needs a long-deserved wake up call. People have been completely spellbound by our consumer culture and abusive employment culture, and have their heads bent into their phones and social media all the time. They don’t pay attention to what their elected officials are doing, and certainly don’t bother to ask any questions before they vote, if they vote at all. Democracy and justice are not spectator sports. Drilled into your head that you’re the greatest country in the world without evidence, and not being encouraged to read, travel outside of this country, learn other languages, or critically think is really catching up with us now. We have become the Idiocracy led by idiocrats. The dumbing down project, four-plus decades old, has finally succeeded.
There are so many changes I’d like to see to our Constitution and laws, so many safeguards need to be put in place to prevent another Pendejo. We need to gut Congress and put in strict requirements for lawmakers who want to serve the public. Not just age and term limits, we need people to be educated well-versed in history, the law, civics, science, and the humanities. They need to be able to read, including reading a room. They need to undergo psychological testing and background checks for unethical conduct. They need to be eligible for the strictest of security clearances. They should be vetted like FBI and CIA agents (used to be, anyway).
I hate to see civilian casualties anywhere, but I have feeling we might soon be seeing them here as a result of this clown fest with a 22 year old grocery clerk in charge of counterterrorism. Meanwhile the pardoned insurrectionists are busy beating people on the streets under the guise of ICE agency. Our major institutions have failed us, including the media. But most of all, our citizens have failed.
Saying you’re not into politics as an excuse for ignorance and inaction is called privilege. We tried to warn you, but you were busy watching reality shows instead of watching reality. Democracy is circling the drain, America. A shot of adrenaline won’t be enough, and CPR has very little chance of success. (They won’t understand that because they have no educated clues about health or death. They do their own research. They think either a miracle will happen through divine intervention, or there is a magic cure online.)
Get the body bag and call the morgue.
I love this post, Alene. "Democracy and justice are not spectator sports. Drilled into your head that you’re the greatest country in the world without evidence, and not being encouraged to read, travel outside of this country, learn other languages, or critically think is really catching up with us now.." So very true. Our population is dumbed down to the max. Critical thinking? There is none.
When I was in China, I was so impressed by the everyday people's drive to succeed and go to the university. Young Chinese citizens and I would talk (in my very broken Mandarin, and their good English) about how if they were lucky, they'd go to the university. Not one person expressed that they felt entitled to an education or good grades. These individuals were working hard to learn so much.
MAGAs don't think critically. In fact, neither do most Americans. We as Americans need to be involved in politics, for our very lives depend on it.
